Chapter 16

I have been thinking a lot these few days – thinking about the Russian client that Aunt Mary told me; thinking about Colton's grandpa; thinking about Colton and I. I can never let Colton's grandpa separate us. This would break Colton's heart as well as mine.

" Anna! Jessie and I are going shopping later. Wanna come along? " Quinn asked, leaning against her locker.

" I think I'll pass. I have a test tomorrow and I know nothing about it. " I sighed. " You girls have fun. " I smiled and my phone vibrated.

" Yes, Aunt Mary? " Quinn made a gesture telling me she has to go for another class. I nodded and waved. I could only hear sobs on the background. I frowned and looked at my iPhone again. The caller was indeed Aunt Mary.

" Aunt Mary, are you okay? " I asked anxiously.

" Anna... " She sobbed and I knew something was wrong. " It's about your father..."

" What happened to dad? " My eyes widen and I could feel my heart sank.

" He was sent to the ER few minutes ago. Anna, what are we gonna do? " Aunt Mary asked and cried.

" Aunt Mary, please stop crying. I'll be there in a few minutes. " I hung up and dashed across the busy hallway filled with students chattering.

Tears started streaming down my cheeks. I can't let anything happen to dad.

" Wow wow wow. Where are you running to, Anna? " Jaxon suddenly grasped my shoulder firmly. His facial expression changed instantly when he saw the tears on my face. " Hey, why are you crying? What happened? Who did it? " He asked.

" My dad is in the ER. I need to go now. Let go of me. " I shoved his hand away harshly and wiped my tears. His eyes widen at the news and grabbed hold of my hand this time.

" I have a car. Let me take you there. "

" Anna! " Aunt Mary called out for me when I was running to the ER.

" Aunt Mary! How's dad? "

" The doctor isn't out yet. He was coughing up blood and then he just collapsed on the floor. " She replied while sobbing. " Aunt Mary, dad wouldn't want to see you cry. He's gonna be fine. " I hugged her tightly and prayed fervently. Suddenly, the ER door opened and a doctor came out.

" Ben's family members? " the doctor asked loudly and we quickly approached the doctor.

" Doctor, how's my dad's condition? " I asked anxiously.

" Miss, I'm sorry to tell you this bad news. Your dad is diagnosed with lung cancer. He has to be treated immediately. " He declared. My whole world stopped for a moment. Lung... cancer? No. This can't be true. Aunt Mary started wailing. I held her hands tightly.

" Doctor, are you sure you're talking about my dad? My dad is always healthy. How can he... " I couldn't even finish the sentence. My vision was blurred.

" Fortunately, the tumor has not spread to the nearby lymph nodes yet. Thus, he needs to be treated immediately. "

" Fortunate? Fortunate, you say?! " I yelled angrily. " How can this be fortunate to you! He has lung cancer! " I sobbed and yelled. I wanted to hit the doctor in the face. I hate this whole world! God, why are you being so unfair to me?
