Chapter 2

A strange morning

I'm sitting in my new kitchen, eating my favorite Coco Pops and I just can't stop thinking about that boy I met almost a week ago. He was so nice and handsome and a bit strange. I visited the park one or two times with Caesar but I never met him again. What a shame! I kind of liked him and I don't even know his name.

"It's your fault Caesar! Now I won't be able to concentrate."

He looks at me with his sheepish blank look. Sometimes I swear he understands everything I say but some other times he looks so stupid. Like now, I am talking to him and he keeps sniffing around our apartment's door near the kitchen table. I think he wants a walk.

"Not today Caesar, sorry."

It's the first day since I learnt about it that I feel really sick. I have a killing headache, my bones feel sore and the only thing I want to do is sleep the whole day.

He stopped sniffing and now he just stares at the door. I'm putting away my half eaten bowl of cereal when I hear a reluctant knock on my door. Caesar keeps staring without barking. This dog will make me crazy some day! He always barks when someone knocks on the door. I curiously open it and just outside my apartment is a boy. The boy! Oh no! I'm a mess....

"Good morning!" He says cheerfully. "I came to welcome my new neighbor".

Caesar whimpers.

"And her fantastic dog of course".

When he hears that he lunges at him for kisses and they are playing ignoring me. Great! It doesn't matter I'm a mess.

"Look what I got for you" he says to Caesar and he pulls a really big dog, bone shaped, biscuit out of his jacket.

"I'm leaving you two to catch up" I say and turn around.

"Wait!" He says. "May I come in?"

I hesitate. I don't even know his name but Caesar is so happy around him, how harmful could he be?

"Yeah, why not? Caesar's friends come here to play every day but I warn you if you break anything you have to explain it to my mother".

"Deal!" he says.

I carefully go and sit on the nearest chair. I feel so weak today. He follows and sits opposite me on the other chair. I look at him.

"Aren't you going to play?"

"Nah, I think my friend is a bit occupied right now". I look at him as he greedily chews his biscuit.

"Besides, I brought something for you too" he says and then he pulls out from his jacket's inner pocket the greatest chocolate of all times and of course my favorite. I actually drool while he places it on the table near me.

"Clever!" I manage to say. "You bribe the master, too".

He just smiles.

"So I guess now that Caesar has other things to do and you are forced to sit with me, you would like a coffee, right?"

"No, thank you". Well I might said it a little sharply.

"Are you sure? I have flavors!" I'm trying to save the situation and thankfully he gets my attempt quickly.

"What flavors?" he asks.

"I don't know. Let me check" I say as I almost agonise to get up out of my chair and go towards the cupboards.

While searching I tell him that I don't really drink coffee so I don't notice what my mother buys. He asks me curiously why -like everyone does when they hear about it- and as always I tell him that I don't like the taste of it. Naturally the next question is what do I drink and when I tell him he says he would like a hot cocoa after all. I turn the boiler on to prepare us both cocoa – I can't make it and not drink it-. I feel his gaze on me and I can't help but wonder if the stonkereness I'm feeling is noticeable. Then someone knocks on my door again.
