Chapter Twenty-Five

Walking into the kitchen in her human disguise and in school clothes on Monday morning, Alice is met with a surprised look on Will’s face. He looks her up and down, “I thought we were done with the whole pretending to be human?”

Alice nods, “We are but I need to talk to them. It’s been four days since we last spoke.” She brushes her hair back, “I need to speak to them and leave things better. They both have been hurt in the past before by their families, I don’t want to hurt them either.”

She shoulders her bag and walks out the kitchen. Brittney and Scott were there even when she did not ask them to. Brittney was open minded about her situation with her love life and gave her advice too. Scott  helped her enjoy her time on Earth. And when Will could not be around after her mother was taken, they were there too. Even if they did not know the real her, she could at least show a part of herself that was real, and they still stuck around to be there. She just wants to fix things and if she has to leave, then at least it will be on a good note.

Will walks out the kitchen behind her, “Alice are you sure. I won’t be there and the trolls?”

Alice nods and cups her hand on his face, “I have to do this.” She cocks her head to the side and crinkles her eyebrows. He has to understand that this was important to her.  Whatever hurts them, whether it is her, their family, or something else, it matters to her. “If I see a troll, I’ll fly as fast as possible.”

Will sighs, “There is no sense in arguing is there?”

Alice grins and shakes her head.

“Come on I’ll take you there.”  He grabs his keys and walks outside. “I am just warning you though you have only today,” He says as they are walking down the side walk. “Even if they still don’t talk to you, we still have to leave. We cannot wait any longer.”

Alice nods agreeing. Anyways if she cannot patch things up with them, then at least she can get the trolls away. She cringes at the image of Brittney being choked by that troll because her scent lingered on her. She cannot allow any more people get hurt because of her.

The school comes in to view and Alice stops. Not because she dreaded going, or because she was unsure she could go back to her normal routine after her mother, but because she saw Brittney coming up the sidewalk.

Brittney spots her from where she is walking, and stops. She looks Alice up and down and then gives a glare before walking to the school.

“Good luck,” Will says next to her.

Alice turns around and gives him a hug, “Thanks, I’ll need it.” She turns around and follows Brittney into the hall. She sees her at her locker gathering her books. Alice walks up to her, but when Brittney turns around, she ends up slamming into her and drops her books.

Brittney looks at Alice, and shakes her head. She gets on her knees and starts to pick up her books.

Alice bends down in front of her and helps.

They stand up and Brittney yanks the book out of Alice’s hand.

“We need to talk,” Alice manages to get out before she can turn around. “I am leaving and I want to fix things before I do.”

The bell rings, and Brittney shakes her head. “We have nothing to fix our whole friendship was a lie.” She passes Alice and walks down the hall.

Alice chases after her and gets in front of her. “It was not a lie. Yes I will admit at first it was strange to have you as a friend, but you cannot blame me, you were the first real friend besides Will that I had.”
