Chapter Seventeen

"The Titans."

When Dorean whispered that in my ear, I felt a chill course up my spine. Even the name sounded cold and cruel. I wanted to ask Dorean more about it, but he wouldn't speak about it and just crawled under the blankets, hiding with a silk blue pillow. I sighed and laid back into bed to go to sleep, but surprisingly, I found it difficult.

So much had happened in such little time.

I escaped my prison in the mortal world, ended up in the Underworld in the home of a demigod, went to court before two gods with other demigods, somehow ended up with an aphrodisiac in my system, dreamt about a strange woman, and learned that there was something scarier than Theo out there.

It chilled me right to the bones. I had to tell Malachi, I noted. In the morning, I'd make sure to find him and tell him about the dream as well as my suspicions. But then, what were my suspicions based on? Something an imp suggested to me?

I could be wrong. Maybe the Titans weren't involved in this, whoever they were. Maybe it was someone else, but the more I repeated that in my head, the more I thought about them.

The Titans. Who were they? They must be truly scary if that made Dorean not even want to say their names out loud. How many were they? What would they do? Where were they?

I kept asking myself questions, trying to answer them myself, but it was too hard when I knew so little about this world. I closed my eyes tightly, making up my mind that in the morning I would find out as much as I could about the Titans and the world that had now become my home.

It took me forever to fall asleep, but I finally woke up around morning to see that it was raining outside once again. The dark sky rolled heavily with clouds as sheets of rain came down, flooding my balcony and churning the sea outside. It's a good thing I didn't plan on leaving the manor today, I noted as I slipped out of the room.

I wandered the hallways a little until I found myself in the main lobby where Skotadi and Fos were arguing about something.

"Nay," Fos sneered viciously, "I assure you that I did not lay a finger on him. Why would I anyway? He's a foul daemon with big nasty claws."

"You have big nasty claws." Skotadi returned angrily, clenching her fists until she saw me past her sister and a smile ripped across her face. She pushed Fos aside, making her stumble before whirling around to yell until she saw me and her face brightened.

"Adrian! You've come to visit us." Fos gushed, clasping her hands together tightly. I blushed lightly at their attention. While I really did not like being touched, I didn't have the heart to tell them to leave me alone as they touched my hair and shoulders gently.

"U-Uhm, I was wondering if Malachi had a library?" I asked. Fos paused thoughtfully and shared a curious look with Skotadi, who nodded slowly after a while, placing a finger to her lower lip.

"Mmm... I am thinking, yes... Should be somewhere around here. Let us help you." Skotadi offered and I nodded, making her and her sister squeal excitedly. They led me back through the hallways, stopping every so often so they could open a door and disturb someone inside before moving on.

For a while there, I figured we'd never find it until Fos opened a door, expecting someone to yell at us again until we caught sight of the bookcases. I sighed in relief and peeked in as Fos held the door open for me and her sister.

Rows and rows of bookshelves sat everywhere, and much to my relief, so did a few DVDs. I couldn't read a lot, so this was going to be difficult. I walked along the shelves, pausing to see that most of them were covered in dust, as if they hadn't been used in a long time.
