I glanced back at the furious owner of a now hot pink car. He deserved it, ranting over why on my way to pick up Jake from kindergarten. Well, he strted it by saying I'm a whore, cause I have a kid, but he is sorta stipuid. I mean really, Jake and I look nothing a like, at all. Jake was a blond, messy 5 year old with Zach's black eyes, while I have long straight black hair and silver eyes.
I think I should leave with Jake , if I get in trouble one more time I'm going to juvie.... That cant happen, because I need to take care of Jake. I promised Zeke as he died that I would take care of Jake. Zeke, my best friend, was killed in a fight, so I take care of Jake, zekes son. Jakes mom got out of Mayfield town as soon as she could, Jake didn't remember his mom at all, so I was practically his mom, anyway.
**********FLASHBACK***********
One day in the summer, while Jake was 3 years old, Zach had to go to the store, dragging me with him. I had to get diapers for Jake, zach wanted junk food and I was craving chocolate ice cream. Zach split off as soon as we got in the store, making a mad dash for the candy and chip aisles. I sigh as I walk towards the baby care section. I grab the right brand, head over to the freezer section, searching for zach afterwards. I find him debating between cheetos and lays potato chips.
'hurry up, will ya, we haven't got all day.' a gurgling Jake attracts the attention of an older woman, who nudges her husband, who was currently preoccupied in a conversation with a burly looking man. 'remember the days when we were like that, young love,' zach and I rush out of the store, after paying for the items, start cracking up, earning a few deserved glances. ' she - thought we where a couple!'
***********FLASHBACK END**********
oh, the good times. I stopped in front of the daycare center, watching as Jake skipped over to me. Sometimes I worry about that boy. As soon as his seat belt clicks, I put the car into drive.
' we are going to leave tonight, be ready'
'ok, I never really liked it here anyway,' says an excited Jake 'where are we going?'
'you'll see'
I speed to the hell hole I call home. I motion for Jake to quietly follow me, hoping not to wake the bastard who killed my mother, aka my dad. I slip past my door, closing it after Jake enters. ' put all your things that you what to keep, into the duffels,' I say as I lean down to undo the floorboards, where I keep my stash of guns, along with knives and $9785 cash. I finish putting everything in the bags. We walk my outside, slamming the door as we leave. I toss the bags in the back, put my chemical romance on the radio and get Jake to sleep. Once we are on the highway, I call my uncle.
' who is this and how did you get this number?'. ' it's good to know I'm loved, uncle' 'hales, it's good to hear from you, what's up? How are you?' ' I'm good, but I need a favor' ' anything for you, what is it' Jake mumbles in his half sleep zone, 'who are you talking to mommy?' 'shhh, go back to sleep' I look over, jakes asleep before I finish. ' who was that, haley' 'you'll find out, and I need a place yo stay, can I live with you and the boys for a while?" 'sure, bye.I'll text you the address' 'thank you uncle, and it's alice now, please don't tell the boys I'm coming' ok,be safe' and at that uncle hangs up on me.
********2 days of driving later*********
it's currently 11:34 and we are one town over from uncles house.
I pull in to the closest Micky d's. Jake is jumping around, at the thought of food. He acts like I don't feed him, but then again he is a growing boy. 'go pick out a table for us, I'll order' he nods is head like a maniac. I chuckle, shake my head and walk inside. After waiting in line for a couple of minutes it's my turn. I tap my foot impatiently waiting for the 2 cheese burgers, 2 large fires and 2 cokes. I slap down a 5 and hurry out to see a dark haired man standing over Jake. 'sorry to interrupt the stare down, but what do you need with my son?' while raising an eyebrow. The guys face goes from anger, to shock, to love? Must just be my imagination. Before he could answer give him a right hook, hearing his nose crack, then hit his right temple. He's now crumpled over in pain, did I forget to mention, I kicked his 'family jewels'.... Well you know now. Jake cheers stop as I threaten the guy. 'if you ever even think of hurting my son, or I, you might as well jump off a cliff, because I have people who would do anything for me, including killing someone for me. I could do it myself, but then again, why waste my time on you, when I have better things to be doing.' after that Jake was bouncing up and down, asking to go to the park. I laugh, 'sure bud, just grab the food, and we are on our way'
