Chapter Twelve:

"I want you to go into my supply closet and categorize every single ingredient.  That should keep you busy all the way through midnight.  Get to it, girl."

My eyes widened at his harsh voice before I ducked my head and did as he told me to.  All of the ingredients were already marked with their names in glass jars, the shelves that the ingredients were on covered three out of the four walls and went at least ten feet up.

I got to work immediately, picking up all of the ingredients starting from the letter A, from Aconite to Asphodel before lining them up neatly on the first shelve, I did the same with B, C, D, E and F and that alone took me three hours.  My mind felt fuzzy from lack of sleep, my eyesight kept fading in and out but I kept going until Professor Snape called me out, telling me I was free to go until after supper.

Fred waited for me outside of the dungeons, looking extremely bored but he seemed to brighten up slightly when he saw me, though that might have just been wishful thinking.  Over the last couple of weeks, I seemed to have developed a slight crush on this particular redheaded twin.  I had never really found an interest in any boy before, let alone actually found myself wanting to be near them or paying attention to every word they uttered.  I wasn't quite sure what to really do about it, should I tell him?  I didn't honestly think he would return the feelings and I didn't want to mess up our friendship by filling it with awkwardness and tension.  I decided to keep my thoughts and emotions to myself for a bit, to see if I could figure out how Fred felt about me first.

"Hey Lily, how was detention?"  I shrugged while smiling slightly, nearly having to tilt my head at an entire ninety degrees just to be able to see him right.  I only came up to two inches about his collarbone, either he was abnormally tall or I was freakishly short... or both. I wonder why I had never noticed our height differences before?  He was at least six feet, and I knew I was only at an even five.

"It was detention, how do you think it went?"  Fred smiled sympathetically before tossing his arm around my shoulder and leading me towards the Great Hall.  He had done this so many times over the months, but this was the first time I had blushed over it.  It was odd to blush over a boys actions, I ducked my head letting my hair fall around my face, acting as a shield in hopes that Fred wouldn't notice my newly reddened cheeks.

I was lead over to sit beside George with his twin sitting on my other side, and Hermione's gang sitting across from us.

"Guys, we're having one last D.A meeting tonight, before the holidays, make sure to show up, okay?"  Harry whispered quietly to everyone who was sitting in the vicinity.  Nobody really said anything after that; we simply just ate in silence, as did most of the other students.  Tension was thick, especially with Umbridge staring at our table with her beady eyes looking slightly smug and it seemed we were all a little too uncomfortable to attempt polite conversation.

After the twins and I were finished eating, we stood up all at once and made our way back to the Dungeons, even though my father was still sitting at the Professor's table with all of the other teachers.  We stood in front of the door, simply messing around and telling stupid jokes until Draco walked up and then it went unnaturally quiet once again.  It was an uncomfortable silence, as we all stood around, shifting our weight around from foot to foot and we seemed to all breath a collective sigh of relief as my father rounded the corner.

The moment the door was opened, we all walked in with Professor Snape following quietly, his obsidian gaze looked at each of us for a moment, lingering on me for a few moments longer then the others and his eyes seemed to narrow as he stared at my face.  I turned away, feeling slightly uneasy at his stare before speaking.
