Part 4

-Zoe’s POV-

“Really Ty?” I asked her. I knew I didn’t look THAT good but I must admit I think I did well. I thought I looked better than usual even by my standards. I was wearing a fitted dress that was a light aqua colour at the top which faded into a deep blue by the time it got to its full length which was just above my knees. I had also put on my black converse again and a charm bracelet that I made for myself when I was younger. It was covered in charms and made a lovely tinkling sound whenever it moved so it was one of my favourite accessories.

“Yeah. I love it.” She replied, making me feel even more self-confident. I grinned at her.

“So, how long until you have to actually meet him at the café?” Ty asked me as she plopped herself on my bed.

“Well…” I said, contemplating.”…about two hours.” I checked my hair in the mirror again for what felt like the millionth time and carefully sat next to Ty on my bed.

“Wow. You got ready pretty early. Don’t you think?” I knew I started changing too early.

“Yeah I suppose that’s true. But…” I trailed off as I tried to think of an excuse.

“It’s ok. Don’t worry about it. I know you’re excited.” She said smiling.

“You’re right. I’m really looking forward to it.” I said happily.

We talk for about an hour, while listening to music, until Ty brought up Nick.

“Um…” She said nervously. “Zoe?”

“Yeah.” I said as I looked up, turning my attention from the magazine I was reading to her.

“Do you think Nick has a crush on me?” She asked.

“I don’t know. It seems reasonable.” I answered pondering. I wonder if he actually did have a crush on Ty. “I’ll ask him for you.”

“Thanks.” She said grinning once again. Ty rarely ever got nervous. She was always confident at school no matter who she was with. Whether it is a shit teacher who was yelling at us or some really annoying kid that was a year below us, she would do what it took for them to leave her alone. So this was very unusual for her to be nervous. Especially the fact that she was nervous in front of me.

“Shit. What time is it?” Ty asked me suddenly.

“Nearly eleven.” I answered looking at my phone.

“I have to go!” She exclaimed.

We both stood up and gave each other a hug. I walked her to the front door where we exchanged goodbyes for now.

As I walked back to my room I passed Nick’s bedroom. I knocked on the door, making sure he was actually there, to which he answered “Yeah. Come in.”

I inched the door open to see what he was doing. He was listening to music, which I had never heard before, whilst practicing playing his guitar. Nick also wanted to be in a band when he was older, much like Julian.

“Hey Nick?” I said trying to sound sweet so he would answer his little sister.

“What?” he was still looking down at his guitar that he had in his lap and humming along to the song.

“Can I ask you a question?” I asked him.

“Yeah. What?” Still looking at his guitar.

“Do you like Ty?” he looked up at my question and immediately turned a bright red.

“Um.” He said. I came to the sudden realisation that my own brother, Nick Valensi, had a crush on my own best friend, Ty Cisero. My jaw dropped. I would’ve never known unless Ty had brought it up.

“You have a crush on Ty!” I was pointing at him as I yelled my realisation at him. I probably yelled too loud but I didn’t care. He turned an even brighter shade of red when I said that.

“Shhhh!” he said to me in a loud whisper while placing his finger on his lips.

“Oh. Don’t worry she left already.” I said reassuring him.

“Okay. Yes I have a crush on Ty.” He said finally admitting it.

“For how long?” I was really curious and wanted to know the details so I sat at his desk and started playing with a strange pen that I found.

“Um… a while.” He answered. The moment that I looked at him I knew he wasn’t lying. I was amazed at myself that I didn’t notice it earlier. I felt slightly stupid and oblivious too. Probably because of how much I’ve been thinking about Julian lately. Julian! I looked at the clock and noticed that I only had ten minutes to get to that café although the bus that I planned on catching had already left.

“Nick can you do me a favour?” I asked him. I was hoping that he would say yes.

“Yeah sure. What do you need?” His face was no longer red and he had his cool back once more.

“Can you take me to the café next to the record shop on the other side of town?” I was really hoping he’d say yes to this question.

“Sure. Why?” he stood up after I started making my way towards his door.

“I’m meeting Julian there.” I answered.

“Okay. Let’s go then.” He was walking down the stairs now and had already grabbed his keys from the table.

“Wait!” I yelled down at him from the top of the staircase. I ran into my room and got the envelope with my application in it. I checked my hair in the mirror for the last time, grabbed my phone off my desk and ran to Nick’s car.

“Ready?” he asked me as I got in the back with my envelope.

“Ready.” I confirmed.
