"Her name is Jennifer Lawrence." The guy currently sitting next to me said. He slid a photo of a himself with a petite brunette in his arms. They looked happy, I guess happiness doesn't last forever. I nodded jotting down the name he had given. "I want nothing to do with her anymo-" Pause. I dared to look over at him. His face was buried in his hands as he shook. Was he crying?
Well, this is awkward...
"Can I get anything for you?" I let out a sigh I was aware I had been holding.
Saved by the smoothie boy.
"Uh yeah." I said running my hand through my hair. "Let me get a drink for my friend-" Right then, I realized I hadn't asked for the guys name. I wish he would stop crying so I could get it. "Uh, just get my friend here a drink."
After a few seconds, he was back with a smoothie. "On the house." He eyed the sobbing guy.
Anyways, back to the weeper.
I poked him sightly.
Finally after a while, he looked up again. His eyes were red and puffy filled with unshed tears. He seemed to be in a lot of pain, sparking curiuosty in me. However I didn't feel bad for him. He huffed, I think it finally clicked in his head that he should continue with this conversation.
"Where was I?" His voice cracked.
"Jennifer Lawrence, that's all you said." Obviously I needed more then that.
"Look, just let her know I want knowing to do with her." All sadness in his voice was gone, he was angry. I had to admit the sudden change in his mood sparked a lot of interest of my part but I didn't ask , it wasn't my business to ask. My only business was get the information necessary and follow up with a well structured breakup.
Quick, easy and painless.
If I had to label what my job was, then I'm the breakup artist.
But I prefer no label. My job was to break-up with a certain person for someone else, no payment required. Maybe a favor every now and then.
Nothing else was said, he gave me one last look walking out the door. More like stalked out the door. Finally when he was out of sight, I cracked a smile. It was the most amusing thing how he could go from sobbing uncontrollably to angry.
"Wimp." The seat that had been emptied by the sobbing guy was now being occupied by Brandon.
"Mind your business." I laughed, lightly shoving him aside. He bent over in pain, but his eyes gave away that he was faking it.
"The dudes a wimp." Brandon justified his comment, "He cried. Com'on." He began to laugh by himself for a while.
"Eigth grade, Amanda Jenson." I smirked, shutting him right up. Amanda had been what Brandon considered the love of his life. Funny story actually, Amanda, Brandon and I had been best friends way back then. They dated for over a year until she had met an older boy in the ninth grade. Needless to say she had asked me to break up with Brandon for her. We eventually kicked her out of our circle and whole break-up artist business took off. "You cried for weeks, wimp."
"Touche" He grumbled. "Man, I've missed you Val!" He reached over pulling me into a smothering hug.
"Missed you too." I wrapped my arms tightly around his neck enjoying the embrace for as long as I could.
"Anyways, ready to go?"
I thought about that for a second..
No, because "ready to go" really meant, are you ready to go see Tristen and Emma, who people who I didn't particularly like. Brandon was my best friend, but we haven't seen much of each other for a while with our busy lives, but today was the first day of summer and we were making up for lost time which meant going back to putting up with certain people just so I could see him every now and then.
