I paused as my heart swelled up. Josh. Josh, of all people, wanted to marry me. But why? Did he just want to make me feel better about having sex? Or did this mean he wanted to committ himself to me? Tears started to well up in my eyes. This was all so overwhelming. Josh, the cool, sexy, mysterious player, was asking me-- nerdy, awkward me-- to spend my life with him after only getting to know each other over the course of a few days. My head spun but before I knew it, the word come bursting out of my mouth.

"Yes," I blurted. A tear rolled down my cheek and finally, finally I felt some release of emotion. Whatever. Who cared about this, who cared what Josh wanted-- all I knew was that I, Adira, had fallen in love with him, or at least the idea of him. Josh smiled and slowly got up, taking my hand. He kissed it gently looking into my teary eyes.

"I do," he said softly, sliding the beautiful ring onto my finger. I looked down at it. It was heart shaped and a bright blue color-- it sort of reminded me of the necklace from my favorite movie, Titanic. Before getting too emotion, I clasped my ringed hand into my other hand, not stepping any closer to Josh until I had my answer.

"Josh... What does this all mean? Do you-- Are you saying you want to stay with me?" I asked. My heart fluttered nervously and I felt physically exhausted already from all the stress and emotions pent up in my body. What a couple of days. Josh smiled as if sensing my exhaustion, and answered me straightforeword, not playing any games.

"You mean after the baby? Of course.... Adira, I have a lot more money than you. Even in just the logical sense, I should stick around for our kid and besides, I want us to try and make this work" Josh stepped closer to me, his eyes baring into mine. I felt something deep in my tummy stir. He looked at me with a mixture of love and lust clouding his gorgeous eyes. Josh actually wanted to try a relationship! With me! When the full implications of what Josh just said hit me, I couldn't help but bound into his arms with a girly squeal. He laughed and held me close, patting my hair. Around us it was gettting dark, and I stayed in his arms until the sun set. It was nice.

"He said what! Oh Adira, I'm so happy for you!" said Cally on the phone later that night. Josh had driven me home after our very emotional moment, listening to country and talking about cats with me with the top down. We enjoyed the last of the summer breezes and kissed gently on the porch. Now I was home, too lovestruck to read, but too emotionally exhausted to leave my bed. I laid there on the phone with Cally, petting Fitzy and examining my sparkly ring. She seemed even more excited than I was.

"Thanks Cal..... Gosh, I know I shouldn't be, but I'm still amazed things worked out so nicely," I giggled, not even caring how girly I sounded "Although I have to admit, I'm still worried about losing my virginity." It was true, the idea of getting naked in front of Josh-- the pretty much Greek god version of a regular teen-- with my awkward, bony body was still pretty frightening, despite the fact that it would at least have some sort of meaning now. On the line, I heard Cally scoff.

"Please Adira, that'll be the best part. Josh is a player for a reason," she said with a tone in her voice. I blushed. Cally did have a point-- he was quite experienced in this. And although it would feel, ahem, nice for me, that was also still a bad thing since I knew I would have to live up to the other girls he had been with before. I had nothing to offer!

"Anyway, in the news of baby making, I took another pregnancy test today," said Cally. I squealed, way louder than intended. Cally laughed.

"Are you--" I started.

"YES!" shouted Cally, causing us both to laugh. I smiled big. Cally was going to have a baby! My best friend was going to have a cute little version of herself walking around soon. I couldn't believe it.

"Cally, I'm so happy for you!" I said. I meant it too. Cally was going to be an amazing mother. On the other line, I heard Cally sigh dreamily.

"I sure hope so. I hope I have a girl," she said. I nodded, then realizing her couldn't see me, I blushed.

"Yeah, me too. When the time comes, that it," I said. I could barely process that my best friend was pregnant, how was I ever going to do that too? Cally squeaked.

"Yeah! Then our daughters could be best friends like we are," she said. My heart swelled with love. Despite her flaws, Cally was still the most loyal, sweet friend a girl could ask for.

"I hope so too," I said.

The next day we had school. Packing up my bookbag, I hurried out the door wearing a sea foam green skit, white flowy shirt, ankle heels, and a bowler hat with little kitten ears poking out. To make up for the heels, I went light on the make up-- a little blush, natrual lip gloss, and some pear-scented lotion. For my hair, I ran a little pink chalk through it to give it up pop of color. Overall, even though I felt a little dressy, I wanted to look nice in case Josh invited me to sit with him at the popular table. Stepping out the door, my mouth fell down.

There was Josh's Mini Cooper!

"Come on wifey, let's go!" he yelled with a boyish grin. My heart raced and I broke into a cheeky smile. Wow, looks like I would be arriving to school in style. I bounded foward, thinking that I was about to have one of the best days of my life.

Too bad I was sorely, sorely mistaken.
