Nathaniel.

My hand flexed against the phone as I wondered what in the actual fuck was happening. Michael Humes, calling me? Something didn't settle right in my gut and the thoughts ran through my mind too quickly for me to make the connection I'm sure was staring me right in the face.

"See, I know this is a little strange but Nuri had a meeting with a client today," he began then paused waiting for me to interject.

I said nothing.

"I know this might be a bit unorthodox, but you seem like the right person to tell. Like perhaps this might impact you the most, that's why I called."

"Well, say what you got to say, and get it over with." Unimaginable thoughts raced to my mind and I had to swat them away before it all became too much to handle. I could literally kick his ass through the phone I was so anxious.

"Nuri is talented at what she does, and I know that many people seek out her services. What I do know is that it's next to impossible for someone to spot her on the street and know who she was and what she did for a living."

"Uh huh." I grunted, not sure where he was going with this.

"The other day... a woman—," he stammered about for his words. " A woman and child approached Nuri. It didn't set right with me at first, and - -I told Nuri this but she didn't really see it the way I did and... and— now she's gone to the woman's home and - -,"

He kept talking, his world falling on deaf ears now that I knew exactly what he was trying to tell me. Nuri went to Emma. She got her little scrawny ass up at the fucking ass crack of dawn to march herself to the slaughter.

This had Ambrose written all over it.

"What's the address?."

"The- - the address?"

"Of the place she's meeting the client."

"I don't have the client's address."

By now I was tearing through my loft seeking out my clothes and boots. "Okay— then a phone number?"

"I haven't got the number either sir."

I stilled. "Well that what the fuck to do you have Humes?"

"Just that she has a meeting this date on her calender."

"Let me get this straight," I shoved one leg into my jeans. "You call my cell, how the fuck you even got my number I don't know- - anyway you tell me that your boss is at a consult."

The more I say it out loud the less sense it makes. "You were so concerned that you thought to call me and warn me yet you have no idea where she it or how to get in touch with her."

He was silent over the line.

"Are you even sure that she's really gone to the meet with the client today. Did you check the ladies room? Maybe she's in there." Sarcasm rolled on every word with ease and just kept rolling. "Or the break room for that matter. She might be at the vending machine getting a fucking candy bar. You wouldn't know... cause you didn't fucking check." I was being an asshole on purpose. Who the fuck rings an alarm with half the information.

She could be dead by now. I shut my eyes tight not wanting thoughts like that to gain power. I had to stay positive.

"I'll see what I can find and I'll call—,"

"Just forget it, I'll take it from here." I ended the call and took to pacing. As a man, emotions aren't something I handle well. For some reason, I'm completely debilitated and don't know what the fuck to do next.
