These are some threads/discussions that are popular and/or common to frequently see in the mdc.
1. Graphic Stalkers: This thread is all about people showing off what they recently made to get compliments, help, etc. 90% of the time, if your graphic isn't good or you're not popular enough, your graphic will be ignored. Then, if someone amazing posts, those amazing people will get 5+ comments about how amazing/beautiful their graphic is. You will find this thread a lot bc mdc-ers love compliments and make a lot of graphics. Therefore, we must showcase them to the wattpad designer community. Some people really hate this thread bc it's not exactly for new people to show off their graphics which are usually buried under more experienced designers' crap. Even so, it is a great way to stalk and get inspo through others' graphics and maybe make a great design afterward. Of course, it can kill and murder your confidence in yourself by viewing all of the amazing graphics. Just remember, Graphic Stalkers are where good people post then call their graphic horrible and cry. Usually, this is them unconciously asking for compliments.
2. HTML Playgrounds: These threads are for testing HTML codes. In the mdc, people like to code pure HTML threads which are basically designs and shapes made with coding in a comment. A code consists of a lot of "greater than" and "less than" symbols with numbers and letters in them that together can change the font, line-height, text color, background-color, and other cool things in a comment. An HTML Playground is used to test and play with all of that with other people who also code. Sometimes, they are private which means the person doesn't want others to post, but a lot of the time, they are public which means anyone can post without getting mad at one another for posting on someone's "private" thread. Some people may stalk yours if you have any type of title, okay who are we kidding. Everyone will look at it. Don't think this is a bad thing though, if you're having trouble, people will/can pm you or post what's wrong. If you need help, pm @cathykiley 55 times for your question/what you need.
3. Rate the Cover Above You: Honestly, idek if this thread exists anymore or if it has gone extinct. Before "Graphic Stalkers," this thread was very popular bc people would come and post their graphics to get criticism. Once a person has posted, he/she must critique the graphic above as well as possible or people will get mad at you for being lazy or just horrible at critiquing. Here are some examples of horrible critic comments: "wow! i like it!" obviously, knowing that someone likes your graphic doesn't help you in any way and only boost your too big of an ego (jk). "it's ugly." knowing your graphic is ugly also doesn't help in any way as it doesn't tell you what to fix, why it's ugly, or anything, but that they think it's ugly. "well...idk. i think everything is perf! you did a good job! :DDDDDD" this really doesn't help you improve either. It just boosts your inflated ego once again, which is no help to the rest of humanity (i iz kidding don't kill meh.). basically, stray away from any short or non-helping critiques when posting in this thread. you also must critique the person above your or the person who is below you will not critique yours bc you were too lazy. The most important part of a critique is to tell the person what you think is bad and how they can improve it. But that's a whole 'nother chapter and includes many different techniques.
4. Blackbird / Let the Bees Know: These are two different graphic competition threads that are very popular bc a lot of very talented designers come and compete against each other through the designing of their graphics. "Blackbird," hosted by @Ashihara, is known for its usually difficult prompts. Despite the difficulty, many very skilled and talented designers still create stunning graphics that will blow your mind. "Let the Bees Know" is a comp hosted by @IsaSecret. It is popular bc a lot of talented designers compete there as well. That's all I know about it, but Lauren may/may not know more. Lauren: I don't even pay attention to comps. honestly, you saw how many threads i applied to when you made me apply once (like 50). So yes, i ignore those threads because i usually end up dropping out anyway.
5. HIRRINGGgggg!!112221!!!!1: These are the threads that people use to get people to die. aka hire people in a group so they can make graphics together like old buddies running a business. Of course, most of the time these threads get people, and then that's where it all falls down. The runner of the thread will either start the staffroom immediately after, making them go on in the process, or wait a few days. If you wait a few days, a lot of people won't show up. If you drag on the staffroom too long, you'll lose people in your thread. Towards the side, i made a nice diagram explaining the process. Red text is basically where it ends that process. Not many, but some are successful.
6. L1V3$TR3@M1NG!!!221112211!!@12!@!@1!!!@!@221: This is where people open livestreams on join.me or some other livestreaming program/site so people with no lives can watch another no-life. AKA PEOPLE MAKE GRAPHICS AND DO RANDOM CRAP LIKE WRITING OR TUMBLR-ING ETC. The great thing about livestreams is that you can learn a lot from them. You can also make a lot of friends like sammich and I did which is why my bio is so friggin long like most of it is just tags AHAHAHAHAHAHA. and also i should update it like yah. the problem with livestreams is that once you have a lot of friends, it may/may not get difficult to remember names. bc, idk about you, but i got probs with names unless i call you by your user. also, if you're nice like me, you're willing to wait 4 hours before someone, *cough*LAUREN*cough* *cough* *chokes* *coughs*, actually comes in. But of course, that prolly doesn't happen a lot. BUT STILL, THIS SHOULD BE WELL-NOTED. ALTHOUGH, LAUREN HAS A VERY SPECIFIC SCHEDULE AND TELLS CERTAIN PEOPLE A.K.A. MEATBALL, WHO DON'T SEEM TO UNDERSTAND HOW SMALL MY ATTENTION SPAN CAN BE IF YOU DON'T ENTERTAIN ME WITH YOUR *beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep*. but of course, some people like lauren are amazing at remembering names that they give people.
in conclusion, leave any comments/questions/opinions you have bc we are here to educate about what we know in understandable (but sometimes not) ways for new people and any older people who may/may not understand.
