Chapter 24

Kellen’s POV

We finally saw his car on the motorway; I hate him with everything I have inside me. Warren swerved the car to the right so we could join the motorway, the people in the car next to us were swearing through the window as we almost crashed into them. “F*ck Warren, take it easy!” There was a little kid in the back of their car.

“You want to catch him don’t you?”

“Yeah but I wanna be breathing!” He sighed and shook his head.

Warren weaved through the traffic, trying to keep up with Max; he was driving erratically and could barely keep the car in a straight line. I was nervous watching him, not because he could hurt himself but because he could hurt someone else.

Max tried to pass another car but and clipped the side, the other car swerved and slammed the brakes on, making the car spin until it stopped. My heart was in my stomach as Warren only just managed to move the car in time to avoid it. I gripped the seat and looked back, one car crashed into the back of it and others had only just managed to stop in time. “We need to stop him now, he’s gonna kill someone,” I mumbled, waiting for my heart rate to return to normal.

“S*it is that Jody’s car?” Warren squinted, trying to look at the car a little way ahead of us.

He got a little closer and it was Jody, and Belle! “Yeah go!” Warren put his foot down on the accelerator and we slowly closed the distance. Max was too close to their car and I couldn’t breathe properly, he bumped the side of another car as he tried passing it, causing it to swerve and break quickly.

Warren was still trying to get closer but this car was a piece of s*it! “Come on Warren!” I shouted impatiently.

“I’m f*cking trying!” His foot was fully down on the accelerator; he punched the steering wheel in frustration and swore a few times. Neither of us said anything but we both knew that Jody and Belle are in that car, and that means so is Millie. We were only just behind Max now; I could see his face in the mirror. Max looked to his left and saw their car. Warren looked at me with wide eyes and I clenched my fists.

Max suddenly swerved the car straight into them; I flinched at the sound of the metal colliding. My heart stopped as Jody started to lose control of the car; she must be trying to correct it. The car suddenly flipped over and started rolling in the field next to the road. Warren was swearing as he slammed his breaks on and weaved through the traffic, trying to get to the side of the road, I couldn’t say anything, my eyes were fixed on the car and my body had completely frozen.

Belle was in the back, where Max hit. Oh s*it she’s dead. My lungs wouldn’t work properly and it felt like someone had just ripped my heart out. After what seemed like hours their car stopped flipping and landed on its roof against a tree. We stopped seconds later and both sprinted to the car. Please, please be okay Belle, I’ll do anything.

Belle’s POV

After Kellen and Warren left me, Jody and Millie went into the lounge to watch a film. “It’s got to be a child friendly game until she goes to sleep, that okay?” I nodded and smiled. I really didn’t care what we it was, watching movie is something normal and that’s all I wanted right now. We got some popcorn and blankets and sat down on their huge sofa to watch whatever Millie chose.

“Beauty and the Beast,” Millie squealed, jumping up and down excitedly. Suddenly she stopped and started at me. “You’re called Belle too!” she said, looking at me in awe as if I were actually the character from the film. Me and Jody started laughing as Millie put the DVD in and brought her mum the remote. She got on the sofa between me and Jody and started eating the popcorn.

I kept wondering about Kellen, it scared me that he was going after Max. I don’t want Kellen to get into trouble and I don’t want him to become a murderer, he’s nothing like Max. All I want is for Kellen to come back and for us to be happy again, I wish we had never gone to the fair that night. I love him so much and feel so guilty still; I will probably always feel guilty for what Kellen gave up.

About fifteen minutes into the film Millie fell asleep so Jody turned the film off and put Dirty Dancing on, I love this film, I never get bored watching it even though I’ve seen it thousands of times.
