“That should do it,” I said, hanging the last ornament on the tree. I stepped back to take it all in.

“It’s perfect,” Pita said, moving to stand beside me. He was finished wrapping gifts and was waiting for me to finish decorating the tree so he could put them under it.

Pita and I shared a mansion in District 12. It wasn’t really my choice, but because we both won the Humping Games we had to share the prize. He seemed a little too happy about the arrangement.

“Our first Christmas in our home,” he said with a smile.

I rolled my eyes at him. I was about to refill my glass of egg nog when the doorbell rang. Pita looked at me and raised an eyebrow.

“I don’t know who it is,” I said. “I didn’t invite anyone over.”

“I’ll get it,” Prissy shouted as ran down the massive winding stairs.

My sister was majorly pissed when I first got back to the district, but when I invited her to live at the mansion with us she got over herself real quick.

“Check to see who it is before you –.”

Too late. Prissy was already swinging open the door before I could finish.

“Ho ho ho,” I heard a man shout from the outside.

“Uncle Heyhey,” Prissy squealed and jumped in his arms.

“Careful hun,” he said. “I don’t want to spill my beverage.”

Prissy let go of him and let him into the house. Heyhey was wearing a Santa hat and looked like he had been drinking for most of the day. Pita gave me a worried look when he saw who it was.

“What’s with the sour faces?” Heyhey said to us. “It’s Christmas Eve. Cheer up.”

“I still remember what happened the last time you stopped by for a visit,” Pita reminded him.

He was referring to the night of the concert. One Direction showed up to give us a private concert on my birthday and Heyhey had decided he couldn’t miss the party. It was a disaster. I was having a private moment with Harry in the upstairs bedroom when Heyhey came flying into the room. He ruined the whole night. He ruined my life that night.

“You’re not still mad about that are you?” Heyhey asked. He took off his coat and flung it into a nearby chair. “I said I was sorry. I even cleaned up most of the vomit the next day.”

“Can we talk about something else?” I suggested. Christmas was my favorite time of the year and I really didn’t want to relive bad memories at the moment.

“Excellent idea,” Heyhey shouted. He strolled over to stand next to me and Pita. “By the way, word from the Capitol is that they’re still super pissed about your little speech at the awards show.”

I smiled as I remembered that night. I made the Capitol look like a bunch of fools. It served them right. It also started talks of rebellion around the Districts. People wanted the freedom to hump.

“I don’t really care if they’re pissed or not,” I said.

“Well I’m just saying,” Heyhey warned. “Watch your back.”

The doorbell rang again. Prissy was already sprinting to answer it before I could yell at her.

     “Gavin!” she screamed.

“Oh god,” I muttered. I hadn’t seen Gavin since that hot night in the Capitol.

“What the hell is he doing here?” Pita grumbled.

Gavin walked into the room and stopped when he saw me. He had a small gift wrapped in blue paper with a red bow in his hands. He smiled awkwardly at me.

“Merry Christmas, Katlick,” he said. “I just wanted to give you your present.”

“You didn’t have to get me anything,” I said.

     “Yes,” he said. “I did.”

He nodded to the door, indicating he wanted a word with me outside.

“I’ll be back in a minute,” I said to Heyhey and Pita.

Pita glared at me as I walked to the door.

     Prissy smiled up at Gavin.

“You look amazing, Gavin,” Prissy said to him in a seductive voice.

“Cool it, sister,” I snapped at her.

I shut the door once Gavin and I were outside. He handed me the small box.

“I haven’t seen you in months,” I said to him. “Why are you here?”

He lowered his head and stuffed his hands into his pockets.

“I miss you, Katlick. I haven’t been over to visit because I didn’t trust myself.”

     “What does that mean?”

“It means I want you and I can’t trust myself to keep my hands off you. Open your present.”

My hands trembled as I unwrapped the gift. I let the paper and bow fall to the ground and turned the small box over in my hand. I slowly raised the lid on the box and then gasped. Inside the box was a small diamond ring.

Gavin got down on one knee and took my hand in his.

“Katlick Eversweet, will you marry me?”

I peed myself. Did he really just propose?

The door flew open and everyone was standing there staring at me.

     “Holy shit,” Pita said.

     “Wow,” Prissy said.

     “Oh damn,” Heyhey said.

“I never want to hold back with you,” Gavin said, looking into my eyes. “I want to have you. All of you. I want to be inside you –.”

“Yes,” I shouted. “Shut up. Just yes.”
