Here I was, on this private plane. Fancy? No doubt about it. I sighed and looked outside for takeoff, good thing Amethyst was fast asleep otherwise my ears would be ringing; she had a burning hatred for airplanes.

Looking at how much I’ll miss London was exceptionally sad, however I cannot deny that a fresh new start would be more than welcomed.

I sighed again; I was doing this a lot ever since that night. That night were the owners of this extravagant private plane rejoined into my life. After eleven years... now they come?

Just who do they think they are?

I was still ignoring them, Aaron, my older brother doing the talking for me.

So here I was on my way to Florida, the place with unbeatable sunshine and stars.  I silently laughed to myself. My mind started dozing off and I thought about how it all started just twenty four hours ago.

June 20th – The beginning of a new beginning

Once upon a time there was a King and Queen...

I sat there on a flat mahogany bench, with my bottom aching so badly that even this basic book couldn’t take away the pain. It was a kneeing reminder; I should really go home and sit on a pack of peas when I get home.

I checked my phone, ignoring the twenty six missed calls; it was 11pm. Sitting under a lamp post at this time is beyond unreasonable. My parents would have a fit if I came home at this time...my parents. My mind goes blank whenever the thought of them surpasses.

Three weeks ago is when my life completely and utterly changed. It was the end of the life of my parents, Jane and Austin.

I thought it was time to take the exceedingly long stroll home, plugging in my headphones and turning the volume up to the max, I made the journey to the beginning of something unimaginable.

Unlocking the door to my five story house, I noticed there was an unusual car on the drive, with tinted windows. As I took out my gun and flicked the safety off, I entered the house stealthily.

There was a sound, a sound of five people I reckon. I made my way to the living room which was only ten metres away. With every step I took, the gun that was behind me started to unveil, that is until I heard those familiar footsteps. Amethyst was running across the wooden floors towards me. I quickly flipped the safety of the gun and returned it back into my boots, and opened my arms to her.

As I neared to the living room, I heard Aarons voice, “She’s here.”

Three people came into view, not including my brother. Two of them had their hands firmly together, married i‘m guessing, while the other one had an ipad in his hands. “Who are you three and give me a reason why I shouldn’t shoot you right now?” That was all the came out of my mouth after I finished assessing them.

The old woman who had her hand tightly grasped around her husband’s took a step forward, resorting into me in taking a step back. “Ariel darling, my how you’ve grown up into a beautiful swan.” Was this woman serious? I was an extraordinary mix but damn I was quite pale for an olive skinned girl. Taking into account that i currently lived in London, and the weather was simply horrendous. “Answer my question, I don’t have much patience,” I responded and began to tap my feet.

The old couple sighed and looked at each other. However they did not answer, instead it was Aaron. “There the Dawningtons, Harriet and John Dawningtons. They’re here to...Um.”  Aaron was looking down at his feet scratching his head. I looked at Amethyst she had that dull spark in her eyes, as they bore into me. My vision moved to Aaron again, “They’re here to what?” I questioned with an eyebrow raised.

“We’re your new family.”

Those words did not come from Aaron’s mouth, other than the sigh that came after those traitorous words. My eyes burned into Aaron’s, “Is that true?” That question was solemnly directed to him.

After what seemed like five minutes, Aaron finally looked up and straight into my eyes.

“Yes”

That was the one word that changed my life.
